Particularly the kind of lunch your kids eat. The kind you pack for them when they head off to school. Before this year, I didn't really know or care much about packable lunches but I"m deep in the trenches now. I fear the less than stellar choices that are offered at Sweet Pea's school. In addition to the choices, Sweet Pea gets about 25 minutes for lunch. That includes standing in line, sitting down, eating and packing up. Not much time right!? So yeah,since the beginning of kindergarten last September, I have packed her lunch every single day.<br />
<br />
I've also packed a lunch for myself and Jojo three days a week since August. I have a little more flexibility with our lunches since we have access to a refrigerator and microwave.<br />
<br />
So why am a blogging about this. It's because of some of the comments that I've heard recently regarding lunches.<br />
<br />
Sweet Pea says, "Mom, why can't you ever send me a NORMAL lunch?"<br />
<br />
One of my preschoolers says "I don't eat ANY fruits or veggies". He brings a sandwich, fruit roll up and 2 sweet snacks each day.<br />
<br />
The lunch staff at Sweet Pea's school said today "So YOU are the mom who packs the famous lunches. Wish you could come give lessons to all the other moms".<br />
<br />
Well, I might offend a few people by heading to elementary school to give lessons on packing school lunches, but I can put my ideas out over the internet for interested parties to read.<br />
<br />
So now that you've read that, I'm sure your curious what sort of magical stuff I'm sending my kids to eat every day huh?? Really it's not that special, I just try to mix it up and keep it healthy. I have a "you must eat your veggies" policy and that goes for lunch too. So this is what my babies are having for lunch tomorrow.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv5bb2nfKQa4vzYH8HgK2NaMZeVFimfOZij2Xf30MzuwR5I-q2nRTGDvOwj1dIT66DOsA4njbpePFJKveOTPDvroK1224qkOmu-cKtmCiF5hz1qd-5LBRJAPGc3_85WNYoroVBrb_H100/s1600/Lunch1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv5bb2nfKQa4vzYH8HgK2NaMZeVFimfOZij2Xf30MzuwR5I-q2nRTGDvOwj1dIT66DOsA4njbpePFJKveOTPDvroK1224qkOmu-cKtmCiF5hz1qd-5LBRJAPGc3_85WNYoroVBrb_H100/s640/Lunch1.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<br />
The top box belongs to Sweet Pea: Left over <a href="http://atkfoods.com/brands/sausagesbyamylu/" target="_blank">AmyLu chicken, apple & gouda sausauge</a>, a Babybell cheese, ketchup, carrot sticks, fresh strawberries and blackberries.<br />
<br />
The bottom box belongs to Jojo: Leftover Italian Sausage and Spinach Soup, carrot & bell pepper sticks, ranch for dipping & fresh strawberries and blackberries. His bottom tray will get popped in the microwave at school for a few minutes.<br />
<br />
So that's what lunch looks like for my kids. No lunchables and no fruit snacks. I'll tell you more about my nifty lunch boxes and little containers for dip and such later!<br />

Summer came and I had two kids and nice weather to keep me busy. Blogging was the last thing I wanted to do. Then fall came and I went back to work. My sewing machine has been VERY lonely and most of my craft time is spent making cool animal projects to go with the letter of the week with the 12 preschoolers in my class. On my days off, I clean, shop, go to the gym and run my kids around.<br />
<br />
<br />
That said, I'm going to try again. However, this won't be so much about crafts. I'm going to try to blog about other things like<br />
<br />
<br />
- lunches. I'm a bit shocked at what shows up in my preschoolers lunch boxes each day and I'm going to show you what I pack for my kids.<br />
<br />
- pictures. I have a fancy camera. I've taken a ton of photos. I think my mother in law might like to see some.<br />
<br />
- life. my kids are insane, make me insane, and can be really darn funny.<br />
<br />
- preschool, I still have some craftiness in my bones and my preschoolers and I do some fun stuff. I get ideas from other bloggers so I'll put some of my ideas here.<br />
<br />
- crafts. Like big girl crafts. Like stuff you do after your kids go to bed. This may be mostly other people's ideas that I have tried.<br />
<br />
So that is that. Read if you like. :)<br />
<br />
<br />
S <br />
<br />
<br />
and see. we are all alive. that's us at Christmas. <br />

It took our taking really cool photos of some BMX bikers in action to prove to him that it was a necessary purchase. I am one happy momma and have been busy snapping away and reading up how to use my camera instead of crafting and blogging. Here's a few images so far! <br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">So I like the blog <a href="http://www.dana-made-it.com/2008/07/tutorial-simple-skirt.html">MADE</a>. Great tutorials. Including the one for the <a href="http://www.dana-made-it.com/2008/07/tutorial-simple-skirt.html">Simple Skirt! </a> I figured it was simple enough that I could show my friend Amanda how to make it on her brand new sewing machine. So a few weeks ago we took her machine out of the box and whipped up a pair of matching skirts for Sweet Pea and Cinderella! It took us two days to finish them thanks to a pair of rowdy little brothers that needed to be supervised and a pitcher of margaritas that needed to be consumed on Cinco de Mayo but we got them done! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

Bad blogger just hasn't been in the mood. Not sure why. I've been up to a few things though, like working on these cute sports pillows for Jojo's room. I was happy to be able to give new life to an old rugby sweatshirt and a really awesome <a href="http://www.usarugby.org/#cc%3D[Application]\\Structure\\Content\\Brand%20Resource%20Center\\Content\\Home{{Tab%3AView}}">Official USA RUGBY</a> Jersey. The white baseballs were made with an old white t-shirt and a bit of red fabric paint. The little man loves them though! <br />

I just can't seem to make myself work on many projects or sit at the computer when I want to be outdoors soaking up the sun. We've been busy visiting the park, riding bikes, running, playing, etc. Crazy how life just gets in the way sometimes. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">One of the highlights of the past few weeks for me was running in the GO! Saint Louis Marathon Relay. How it works is that a four member team each runs a six or seven mile leg to complete an entire marathon. The church we attend had four teams running. I ran the last leg when it was very hot and mostly uphill. I was happy with my time and was amazed by all the people out there running. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOknX_PJs7I7eBMhD-cHQrjYVyDo-ONEF1p5wbDBKelikEhw2WbV8F_Ku54njY7qiGcTkEWR1IpbAJFQzKhOhGHv18dwZxIvGlTAA6U0MXuHKujz_YXUf5j1fXrqSCh6_yTcYTCtynk2U/s1600/relay+marathon+photo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOknX_PJs7I7eBMhD-cHQrjYVyDo-ONEF1p5wbDBKelikEhw2WbV8F_Ku54njY7qiGcTkEWR1IpbAJFQzKhOhGHv18dwZxIvGlTAA6U0MXuHKujz_YXUf5j1fXrqSCh6_yTcYTCtynk2U/s400/relay+marathon+photo.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Another bit of excitement around here is that we have our garden planted. It's just a little bitty raised bed and a few post but it's still super fun for the kids. Our peas and beans have sprouted and are looking great! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPfl_S44s132xWjGy-OZOQvZ-he7fbUvH91J7fIW7MsHzJX0NA7MJb039dA-66ftY4NVJ4ZRSBChmSkDZjCMcoxqMuSgkl9L1U0tPbB1ACostTk9GeoEZz6SYA5_Ylfcu_Trf8MNVg_0c/s1600/leah+in+the+garden.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPfl_S44s132xWjGy-OZOQvZ-he7fbUvH91J7fIW7MsHzJX0NA7MJb039dA-66ftY4NVJ4ZRSBChmSkDZjCMcoxqMuSgkl9L1U0tPbB1ACostTk9GeoEZz6SYA5_Ylfcu_Trf8MNVg_0c/s400/leah+in+the+garden.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">And today we are wishing the husband a very happy birthday. And yes, JOjo is wearing a tie on a Tuesday. He likes to dress like daddy, bless his little heart. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFnfI4yQMV5wWMzIvMgV6Dh9tZ7WwEO3C7Zm0a01jHBu-PX4qnSsSrnXbPr1TX_NkH0efa0MV2TG9wGbarlyAqohkreR4hPATU7WmRTCgPbZcQ7X-z_GnT0xd9rFjuNheK2ExtprWFX18/s1600/DSC07750.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFnfI4yQMV5wWMzIvMgV6Dh9tZ7WwEO3C7Zm0a01jHBu-PX4qnSsSrnXbPr1TX_NkH0efa0MV2TG9wGbarlyAqohkreR4hPATU7WmRTCgPbZcQ7X-z_GnT0xd9rFjuNheK2ExtprWFX18/s400/DSC07750.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">And I have been doing a few crafty things. Jojo got a new BIG bed last week so I've been working on a few things for his room including some pillows and lamp. The hubs and I are off to the STL Cardinals game tonight so those will have to wait till tomorrow! </div>Sarah@sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11178230087183015668noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168475680679875161.post-82732170832058936642011-04-06T22:36:00.000-05:002011-04-06T22:36:28.847-05:00Wall Pockets & Organization<div style="text-align: center;">True confession of the day. I am not an organized person. I'd like to think that I am but I'm not. Honestly it drives me crazy and I try and try again to be more organized but it never quite comes together. This week, it a fit of frustration, I'm at it again. I could NO LONG STAND what was happening in my laundry room. It's a big laundry room but the space is sort of wasted. What does one put in a laundry room?? I have a washer and dryer and on the opposite wall is a double closet, and a pantry type closet and on the third wall is the door to the garage, oh and there is also a door to the kitchen! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I really should have taken a photo of what was going on in there but it was pretty sad. I added this table that had become the dumping ground. Mail, keys, craft stuff, a half eaten hot dog, random snacks, bubbles, tools, a jump rope. The kids had no good place to put their bags & coats. I tried to get them in the closet but it just wasn't happening. So on Monday, I snapped. I banished the table to the basement and brought in a shoe rack and a pack of command hooks (I need to do a post on my love affair with command hooks!) I created these awesome fabric wall pockets and a new chore chart. Now, who wants to guess how long this attempt at organization will last!?!? </div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8ktB3jf4AaOTExMoEIeFfAwRCqn8RepQ5LKUSn30NJ4Ug7ORUGHN50uAxFl9jc-Rlvw8GDwjSnBFzT8EvlfM6SDRVKjavNJ4OwBM90y5oMUUw8OBS3bKeDhBvpNu5lQECkPEAQ8qSrhM/s1600/DSC07667.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8ktB3jf4AaOTExMoEIeFfAwRCqn8RepQ5LKUSn30NJ4Ug7ORUGHN50uAxFl9jc-Rlvw8GDwjSnBFzT8EvlfM6SDRVKjavNJ4OwBM90y5oMUUw8OBS3bKeDhBvpNu5lQECkPEAQ8qSrhM/s640/DSC07667.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"> I made the chart from the metal sheet of a dry erase board we had that had lost it's frame. I covered the edges with strip of fabric from an old bed sheet that I hot glued on. It's stuck to the door with command strips. The chores, etc are written on with a marker so I can change them as needed and the kids mark their completed chores with a magnets made from craft foam. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7PTESp_xOSTdH3H9DCOed7HCGqYhuw-5LqZfo6yasGAMK1G4sGBp45vDUGzijlvHmZ6jC5-zphxC7smfhLuDnITes57hs-vNuVLhMfQa9X_k-157nzhfMGY6ZVjq9kTMugQZY4DCuAA0/s1600/DSC07665.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7PTESp_xOSTdH3H9DCOed7HCGqYhuw-5LqZfo6yasGAMK1G4sGBp45vDUGzijlvHmZ6jC5-zphxC7smfhLuDnITes57hs-vNuVLhMfQa9X_k-157nzhfMGY6ZVjq9kTMugQZY4DCuAA0/s640/DSC07665.JPG" width="371" /></a></div><br />

I LOVE that they are made from corrugated plastic and an old bed sheet. You can use cardboard too but I have tons of corrugated plastic on hand. Please don't look to closely at these since my fabric got glued on a bit crooked. It was a hazard of attempting to craft and supervise a toddler at the same time. I'm hoping that these small things help get life back in order around here just a bit!Sarah@sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11178230087183015668noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168475680679875161.post-63863475893581946822011-04-04T14:27:00.000-05:002011-04-04T14:27:17.972-05:00The Charlotte Shirt<div style="text-align: center;">So it's Monday and I think the germs have finally left the house!! Finally it was a long week that ended with a chest x-ray and a double infection for Sweet Pea. We managed to perk up this weekend and get out of the house as a family. AND both kids were off to school today!! Sweet Pea headed back to preschool and Jojo had his first day at his preschool. His school is the coolest thing, it's at the local high school as is taught by students taking child development courses. He goes three days a week for six weeks. Such a fun places for him to start school. Sweet Pea went there too! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Having kids down for the count last week gave me a bit of time to sew and to do some crafts with them. The only problem was that I had to work with what I had on hand! I hauled out another chunk of the red floral I scored at goodwill that I used for <a href="http://sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.com/2011/02/i-would-just-like-to-say-that-its.html">this apron</a> and <a href="http://sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.com/2011/03/curtains-to-skirt.html">this skirt.</a> This time I whipped up a cute little swing style top for spring using the Charlotte Dress Pattern from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/mamastellato">Mama Stellato</a>. I just left off the sash and shortened the length. I hope to pick up some white capri pants to go with it. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGMeE7PoJz0GEj82hvPDJX-ohvM7YuMOBgqzKIe4IbFFJgpbUMKRN3jTqqZUvkPjqasktgk8F8ywBVtOsr3yop36sMjhBo9JiSfX-KV5ImK6EBqmyC1aWswiuxAxOJcRO9ZHU2S6qRq-E/s1600/DSC07659.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGMeE7PoJz0GEj82hvPDJX-ohvM7YuMOBgqzKIe4IbFFJgpbUMKRN3jTqqZUvkPjqasktgk8F8ywBVtOsr3yop36sMjhBo9JiSfX-KV5ImK6EBqmyC1aWswiuxAxOJcRO9ZHU2S6qRq-E/s640/DSC07659.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">And no, there is no photo of my model wearing this top because this is what she looked like a good part of last week. Gorgeous, but one sick little girl. </div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirkHU6V__1aiGSsx-p5HLC3G4i6b-Z5zALmJh86syFTI6mx7tlwH6aFH9yZR1PMzS5cqCrRpQK2ly2Sb3lfGqtfS7jmsrDCP16G2aUcapDiZKklc1UGSJSp7PJGjqKhPNj0GaM_SlX4JQ/s1600/DSC07655.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirkHU6V__1aiGSsx-p5HLC3G4i6b-Z5zALmJh86syFTI6mx7tlwH6aFH9yZR1PMzS5cqCrRpQK2ly2Sb3lfGqtfS7jmsrDCP16G2aUcapDiZKklc1UGSJSp7PJGjqKhPNj0GaM_SlX4JQ/s640/DSC07655.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>Sarah@sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11178230087183015668noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168475680679875161.post-8603604038536495142011-03-31T13:58:00.000-05:002011-03-31T13:58:27.784-05:00Bunny PouchesSo we are still sick around here. Poor Sweet Pea has had a fever since Sunday night. The pediatrician thinks it's influenza. YUCK. And now Jojo seems to have a fever too. Both of them were up during the night last night a couple of times which is never fun, especially when Jojo shows up at the side of the bed with a bloody nose saying "I need a keenex". There is something terrifying about your toddler's face covered in blood in the middle of the night. You'd think I'd be used to it my now since it's been going on since before he could walk, but no. So since we have been stuck at home this week, I've been trying to squeeze out a few projects like this one. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_hfeDQdTdvzkhpdKrb3sRDWbDZ-CDQN5pNzfWVgj9TwX1BlBofdxk6DJHYqWxKZAAPnXRtyr0KvwmCSR62sfy5xYpEku3bjrUo23PDV2n0HKiKDBeCpvq2t3guZLFlyxWppCJ_CBuxuA/s1600/DSC07649.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_hfeDQdTdvzkhpdKrb3sRDWbDZ-CDQN5pNzfWVgj9TwX1BlBofdxk6DJHYqWxKZAAPnXRtyr0KvwmCSR62sfy5xYpEku3bjrUo23PDV2n0HKiKDBeCpvq2t3guZLFlyxWppCJ_CBuxuA/s400/DSC07649.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
I follow several (WAY TO MANY) blogs on facebook. And this super cute idea popped up on my news feed this week. <a href="http://sewhomegrown.blogspot.com/2011/03/diy-bunny-pencil-pouch-inspired-by-west.html">Sew Homegrown</a> made some really cute bunny pencil pouches that were inspired by <a href="http://www.westelm.com/products/bunny-pencil-set-c221/?pkey=ceaster-decorating-gifts">these cute bunnies from West Elm.</a> Both of these versions are made out of knit material, I did have a few old sweaters floating around, but I decided to use the sleeves from the fleece <a href="http://sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.com/2011/03/embellished-5-fleece-pullover-refashion.html">from this refashion</a> instead. With some creative cutting, I had just enough to squeeze out two bunny pouches to tuck into my kids' Easter baskets!! Now that I know how to put these together I'm thinking of making a few other animals, or monsters! Just something cute to add to birthday presents and such! <br />
<br />
<br />

I'm just waiting for Jojo to be sick too. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">We did manage to squeeze in a quick birthday party for Sweet Pea over the weekend. I really was trying to avoid a party (worn out mom) but we made it happen. Nothing to fancy this year. I did manage to squeeze out a set of these <a href="http://www.skiptomylou.org/2009/02/24/felt-birthday-crown/">Birthday Crowns</a> which were fun for the kids to take home. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4BF3sjRwuy8G3a77k7MkHeJTm4pGnbJlMgJSQYYbMvx8ffkEe_VTMBl64NbCslaM9bTvJJiFfuQf9jqX10FTs2so5cxzntj-K1TcO4ybejk67A1xGKBQIogmYQUhRS8ONj962lpxBXwo/s1600/DSC07626.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4BF3sjRwuy8G3a77k7MkHeJTm4pGnbJlMgJSQYYbMvx8ffkEe_VTMBl64NbCslaM9bTvJJiFfuQf9jqX10FTs2so5cxzntj-K1TcO4ybejk67A1xGKBQIogmYQUhRS8ONj962lpxBXwo/s400/DSC07626.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">For a quick craft, I printed the <a href="http://vol25.typepad.com/freebies/build%20your%20own%20cupcake.pdf">build your own cupcake</a> pieces from <a href="http://vol25.typepad.com/">Volume 25</a>. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1C-u-SnX04tO401tXNpuel6wzqto-WkYcCR6WMbzoGgJq6KIGIxyu6EdIYK-AvIIvNvkQX-HwtMrypnwx59Q-HimpdksJFvZ8cYV0NT9CktjED4aaPp_0-xaeLOln6H2XSaQZtroQyXo/s1600/DSC07628.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1C-u-SnX04tO401tXNpuel6wzqto-WkYcCR6WMbzoGgJq6KIGIxyu6EdIYK-AvIIvNvkQX-HwtMrypnwx59Q-HimpdksJFvZ8cYV0NT9CktjED4aaPp_0-xaeLOln6H2XSaQZtroQyXo/s400/DSC07628.JPG" width="400" /></a></div> We also had fun with the "stick the giant cherry on the cupcake game." I just cut the left over felt from the crowns into a cupcake shape and had the kids stick on felt cherries.<br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">Quite some time ago, Polly from <a href="http://helpinglittlehands.blogspot.com/">Helping Little Hands </a> asked if I would be interested in participating in her March Read Along. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><center><a href="http://draft.blogger.com/%20http://helpinglittlehands.blogspot.com/"><img border="1" height="175" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirYxaOPcRk4AFtx5u4Pl99YK9Tq5LKbxcNxBjfkpet9yfsO1jz5K-T3InmalrBdN8B8r9BoPA9pqWeNuLGwDCWiOvPYovuBLJyjTO0YWfExoHEtAi8K9ahgvTbpyc4njCdrgVpq39udB0/s1600/Helping-Little-Hands-Big-Re.jpg" width="175" /></a></center><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Several bloggers are reading a children's book with their kids and then posting about a craft or activity to go along with each book. Now, I'll have to admit, I am not the best at reading to my kids. I used be great at it and Sweet Pea would sit for hours listening to story after story, then Jojo came along. His window for stories is about 5 minutes and then it must be the book of his choice and he must get to turn the pages and hold the book, etc. So, it light of that we picked Jojo's favorite book for the read along, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Freight-Train-Board-Caldecott-Collection/dp/0688149006">Freight Train </a> by Donald Crews. My mom sent him huge board book version for Valentine's Day (it's a tradition that my mom sends all of her kids and grandkids books on Valentine's Day). Freight Train is about a train on a track and it's different colored cars. It moves, through tunnels, across bridges, in light in dark and the it's gone. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS1pJSZry3ddoTFmkS08bbSs0IBYiiardzUWAOHE-f5UsudWtdjAnlqM4xF1iZCvOJqYdtvXRAD2qKVIdiAMMt6NioUK7TkSGC_KDwRdA-NVvyt1IG6-0MRHnkuPHBDtBUsyP-9vgbNks/s1600/DSC07607.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS1pJSZry3ddoTFmkS08bbSs0IBYiiardzUWAOHE-f5UsudWtdjAnlqM4xF1iZCvOJqYdtvXRAD2qKVIdiAMMt6NioUK7TkSGC_KDwRdA-NVvyt1IG6-0MRHnkuPHBDtBUsyP-9vgbNks/s400/DSC07607.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">For our activity I cut out the pieces of the train for each of my kids out of construction paper. I used the colors of the cars in the book for the colors of each of the cars and did my best to match the shapes. The kids then decorated their train cars and attempted to reassemble their trains in the same color order the trains are in the book. The kids spent some time driving their paper trains across the hardwood floors until we found a spot to hang them and we decorated some more. It was a great learning activity, especially for 2 1/2 year old Jojo to work on color recognition. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMK0Qzm06-JxaxNYGxLqN7MROSVogoLkhtmHoJFMU1EkTbzGA3mCC0ZJfE2KkcAHC0HEi6DOtJO89uTP8lBdYS818Hu2i130W3JEJX3ac5nRCrg6mQEHf-7515zYesvo5iaOogGQIlpfE/s1600/DSC07602.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="255" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMK0Qzm06-JxaxNYGxLqN7MROSVogoLkhtmHoJFMU1EkTbzGA3mCC0ZJfE2KkcAHC0HEi6DOtJO89uTP8lBdYS818Hu2i130W3JEJX3ac5nRCrg6mQEHf-7515zYesvo5iaOogGQIlpfE/s400/DSC07602.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

I managed to survive my week of traveling. Nothing like driving across the state of Iowa diagonally!!!! We had a lovely time despite getting minimal sleep. However, I managed to bring back a nasty fever and a head full of snot which has kept me down for the past few days. We also are hosting my husband's niece and boyfriend from WI this week AND it was Sweet Pea's 5th birthday on Monday. So yeah, sick and busy. Here's a few photos to tide us over. <br />

I may pop in a with a cool photo or two but hopefully not. I will be busy discussing brides and babies. I am spending the week with my parents and sisters. Two sisters will be brides this summer and one is pregnant. Fun times I'm sure. The trip involves over 20 hours in the car over six days and is sure to be an adventure since Sweet Pea and Jojo are coming along!! Until next week, I leave you with these pants I made for baby LT. (That's what I'm calling my new niece or nephew for now). One pair is recycled from an old pullover and the other was intended to be a shower curtain! <br />

It was such a blessing to me when we moved here and I have made some of my best friends through the group. One of the cool things about our group is that we are always welcoming new members. Another cool thing is that we have a message board where we can ask others for help with just about anything from "help me with potty training" to "does anyone know how to sew?" A while back I answered "yes" to the sewing question and met Christine who is new to our group and also works as a photographer. She recently relocated to our area from Nebraska and is working on setting up a studio in her new house. As part of her studio she purchased several cuts of fabric to use as backdrops and needed help with hemming the edges so they can be washed in the future without fraying.<br />
<br />
So, here's a few of the cuts of fabric I tackled. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvY7STD85La73KTCzsMf-3fs7Ujuq2CFMiTLY_ncGERENwPCpLDvjbFmS_LJGVrRJdnyd4ygwer2UazwMd61zLnow4W6KU7dVf0el2QQug-BJezFtpoW4AyAfn3dFZhmiPShqXtLSKHaQ/s1600/DSC07498.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvY7STD85La73KTCzsMf-3fs7Ujuq2CFMiTLY_ncGERENwPCpLDvjbFmS_LJGVrRJdnyd4ygwer2UazwMd61zLnow4W6KU7dVf0el2QQug-BJezFtpoW4AyAfn3dFZhmiPShqXtLSKHaQ/s400/DSC07498.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><br />
Now, I'm pretty excited because in exchange for my hemming up Christine's fabrics, she has offered to take some photos of Sweet Pea & Jojo in her new studio! Sweet Pea turns five next Monday and I'm really excited to have some images of her captured at this age.<br />
<br />
Also, if you are in either the Saint Louis, MO area or the Omaha, NE area, feel free to contact Christine. She has a few spots left for her model mini sessions next weekend! If that time doesn't work for you, Christine can also be reached at her blog at <a href="http://reflectionsbychristinephotography.blogspot.com/">Reflections by Christine Photography</a> or on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/home.php#%21/pages/Reflections-by-Christine-Photography/333679582164">Facebook</a>. I also know from following Christine on facebook that she has super really really cute hats and headbands and tutus to use for photos of little people, go take a look! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYNzIlP5dPWKx11oxUop4j98YxcAgAYaQ6eiCzWa2JKAOIsbxloOAgWIepeXbFhqCXFdDc8lWIH_kvTnBPauinVtuWFzzV44Vym3wVLFP3O8gGBUGyDKJsxbnza4yf7yV8Z0hcfUn2-jc/s320/STUDIO-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">I<img border="0" height="305" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYNzIlP5dPWKx11oxUop4j98YxcAgAYaQ6eiCzWa2JKAOIsbxloOAgWIepeXbFhqCXFdDc8lWIH_kvTnBPauinVtuWFzzV44Vym3wVLFP3O8gGBUGyDKJsxbnza4yf7yV8Z0hcfUn2-jc/s400/STUDIO-2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />

Hopefully in a few weeks I can share some super cool images of my kids. So, those of you sewing or painting, or doing other crafts. Can you use your skills in trade??Sarah@sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11178230087183015668noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168475680679875161.post-56710316663707693092011-03-12T06:30:00.001-06:002011-03-14T09:26:09.562-05:00Embellished 5 - Fleece Pullover RefashionSo the Embellished Five is back at it again this month. The idea is that five bloggers will start with the same item. We will each embellish it however we like and post about it on the same day. For the first round, Stefi sent each of us a pink t-shirt. You know the, basic one you can pick up at JoAnne Fabric or Michael's Craft Store. <a href="http://sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.com/2011/02/embellished-5-pink-t-refashion.html">Here's my T-shirt post. </a> This month we were each sent a cream colored fleece pull over from Old Navy. <br />
<br />
I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to do with this one and have been staring at it and moving it around my house. I finally decided to transform it into something I actually need this time a year, a vest. The weather is just starting to turn spring like here in Missouri but I like to have something to throw on in the mornings! This is what I came up with. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5517888849/" title="DSC07471 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07471" height="500" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5091/5517888849_6e96cd720b.jpg" width="402" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5518480186/" title="DSC07487 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07487" height="500" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5093/5518480186_8a822b0b1b.jpg" width="427" /></a></div><br />
Nothing to major but it will work for me and it was my first time installing a zipper in a jacket!! <br />
<br />
Be sure to check out the rest of the "Embellished Five" to see what they came up with! And look for more. We have three more rounds to go! <br />

Well they also became part of this cute ruffled apron. I'd show it to you on a real person but somehow it makes my belly look HUGE and I'm still in my sweaty gym clothes from this morning. I think it will be super cute on my sister or one of her friends who may win it as a prize at her bridal shower next week! <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5517886987/" title="DSC07493 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07493" height="500" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5014/5517886987_d657a44fd4.jpg" width="496" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5518479520/" title="DSC07494 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07494" height="467" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5253/5518479520_db78df7cd6.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
<br />
This one I put together with out a pattern. IN retrospect, I wish I had made the bottom layer of printed fabric wider and gathered instead of flat. I am happy with how the waistband and apron ties cover up the original stitching of the curtain casing though. <br />
<br />
Hope you all come back tomorrow! It's the second installment of the <a href="http://sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.com/2011/02/embellished-5-pink-t-refashion.html">Embellished 5!</a>Sarah@sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11178230087183015668noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168475680679875161.post-63013004167371318212011-03-10T15:49:00.000-06:002011-03-10T15:49:22.789-06:00Curtains to SkirtSorry I have been a bit absent. It's been a busy week around here. Sweet Pea had her evaluation for kindergarten which she passed with flying colors. I had to laugh that she got a special mention for her scissors skills. Someone spends lots of time on her craft projects!! This morning we had a speech pathologist at the house for Jojo's evaluation to get some services through the state. I got the same "your kid needs services but he doesn't qualify" answer I was expecting. Now to figure out what to do. So that's life. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5515384641/" title="DSC07433 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07433" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5216/5515384641_4bf2e1e5bc.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
<br />
On to crafts. In order to save a few pennies on sewing projects I have been on the hunt for alternate fabric sources. This past week I grabbed this pair of red valance curtains from the $1 section of my thrift store. They have become a couple of things but the most fun so far is this cute skirt for Sweet Pea. I added a strip of fabric to the bottom and put a piece of elastic through the top casing and sewed it up the back. The waist is a little wonky but still pretty fun for summer! <br />
<br />

Is anyone else following Celebrate the Boy over at <a href="http://www.dana-made-it.com/">MADE </a> and <a href="http://www.made-by-rae.com/">Made By Rae</a> ?? It's a whole MONTH of boy projects and giveaways and this is the 2nd year they have done it. I've gotten so many great ideas and there a few tutorials that I have gone back to several times, especially the ones about making pants! <br />
<br />
This week Anna, from <a href="http://www.noodle-head.com/">Noodlehead</a> (one of my other favorite blogs) shared her <a href="http://www.noodle-head.com/2011/03/celebrate-boy-tutorial-basic-boys.html">basic boys wallet</a> tutorial. I just happened to receive a huge box of discontinued decorator fabric samples from my sister in the mail this weekend and thought they'd be perfect!! I'm thinking these wallets will be my "go to" gift for Sweet Pea's friends as they are all turning 5 this spring! I know most of them would love to receive their own wallets with a dollar two and maybe a gift card inside!! I know my kids are excited about them! In fact, I made Jojo's first and Leah hounded me all evening to do one for her. Thankfully my non-napping kids went to bed at 7pm so I had time to make her's too! <br />

Sorry these photos are less than stellar. It is an absolutely miserably dreary day here once again. I am so ready for this rain and gray to be over. It seems I need a bit more practice and little less help from the small people on applying my vinyl pieces and snaps too. Lots of crookedness there!!Sarah@sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11178230087183015668noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168475680679875161.post-61451799711185977382011-03-07T15:08:00.000-06:002011-03-07T15:08:20.776-06:00Emalily Designs<div style="text-align: center;">I got the sweetest surprise on Saturday night. Remember the <a href="http://sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.com/2011/01/pay-it-foward-pouches-giveaway-of-sorts.html">"Pay it Forward" </a> post back in January. The one were I put the following as my status on facebook? : <i>"I promise to send something handmade to the first 5 people who leave a comment. They must in turn post this and send something they made to the first 5 people who comment on their status. The rules are that it must be handmade by you and it must be sent to your 5 people sometime in 2011."</i> Well, I also responded to the call by commenting on my friend Emily's status and Saturday she brought me the cutest flower refrigerator magnets! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5507372822/" title="DSC07438 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07438" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5179/5507372822_f544e5e55e.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">I have a special affection for the orange one!! I told Emily that it's too bad she doesn't have an Etsy shop! BUT if you are interested in your own flower magnets can contact Emily of Emalily Designs at lwclizird@yahoo.com. She also makes similar flowers that are attached to hair clips for little girls! Darling!! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I'm thrilled to have a fancy fridge. These look a little better than the superman and snoopy magnets my kids have stuck to the fridge! </div>Sarah@sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11178230087183015668noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168475680679875161.post-82909144590374242942011-03-05T17:14:00.000-06:002011-03-05T17:14:21.125-06:00Embellished T<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5500273939/" title="DSC07414 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07414" height="500" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5214/5500273939_07cf1d7712.jpg" width="283" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">It's Saturday. A dreary Saturday to close out a long week that included losing every single phone number in my phone and having my brand new tennis shoes stolen. And I'm home chilling with my crank pot kids. At least they napped today!!! Yesterday they opted not to which was NOT a good thing since mommy went out the night before and stayed up WAY to late. I was one tired, cranky mommy yesterday, hence no blogging. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So I'm back at it again today. My husband is nice enough to be spending the entire weekend downtown celebrating Mardi Gras while I'm home with my munchkins. I am hosting a "Mom's Night In" Slumber Party tonight though. Anyone want to come over for Cosmopolitans and Games?? </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Okay, sorry for the whinefest. I have a craft to show you!! How about an embellished t-shirt! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Start with one plain tshirt. This one is from Target. It was on clearance. I have an affection for black tshirts. Seriously, I have five or six. And I have just as many black tank tops! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5500184257/" title="DSC07399 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07399" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5015/5500184257_a8d47aca5c.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Next, you need some tulle. I used the kind from a roll in the wedding supply section. I cut it into 1/2 inch strips. I think the length is six inches. I just went with whatever the width of the roll was. Pick on a spot on the side of your shirt, and lay out your strips in a "starburst" pattern. I put mine pretty low so I wouldn't have weird stretching over my chest. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5500781282/" title="DSC07401 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07401" height="500" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5094/5500781282_db4d0481c2.jpg" width="375" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Feel free to mess with your pattern. Vary the lengths. Make them all the same. Do multiple colors. Mine are lavender even though you can't really tell. After you have them how you like them, pin them down and sew them on. Sew right down the middle of each strip. It worked best for me to sew from the outside of the strip to the inside, overlapping strips as I went. After I sewed all the strips up to the side of my shirt, I trimmed the extra off. Now you can stop here if you want but I wanted to add a "center" to my design. SO I made a rosette out of a strip of tulle. I started with a knot and twisted and wrapped it to make a flower </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5500780300/" title="DSC07409 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07409" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5220/5500780300_f6b45de670.jpg" width="500" /></a> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://littlebirdiesecrets.blogspot.com/2010/09/fabric-rosette-tutorial-extravaganza.html">Here</a> is a good tutorial on how to do it. I didn't use glue, I just used a needle and thread to secure the rosette and then secure it to my shirt. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5500869988/" title="DSC07419 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07419" height="474" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5254/5500869988_0b59779650.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">And if you are feeling fancy like me, you can add a few beads! I sewed those on with a needle and thread too. </div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5500871816/" title="DSC07430 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07430" height="500" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5017/5500871816_95c9b4bb91.jpg" width="288" /></a></div><br />

This past Saturday the world lost a very special person to breast cancer. Julie was one of my mom's best friends back when my mom was the age that I am now. It's been several years since I had seen Julie, but her passing brought back many memories of the fun things she planned for her son and my sisters and myself to do on our visits to her place. It served as a reminder to me that even the smallest of things can make the entire day for your kids and create a memory for life. <br />
<br />
One of the things I remember most is that Julie was always creative with lunch. I know there are plenty of moms out there doing the same thing. I've done it before but I needed a reminder. This was lunch yesterday! Cottage cheese, grapes, strawberries, carrots, ranch dressing & a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5494667949/" title="DSC07406 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07406" height="500" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5098/5494667949_a52c900c92.jpg" width="488" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5494668785/" title="DSC07407 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07407" height="484" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5011/5494668785_b8401b2f70.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
And this is what we had today! Fruit skewers, Grilled Cheese fish and a tomato soup pond. And yes, those fish went swimming!! <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5495261526/" title="DSC07410 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07410" height="320" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5297/5495261526_d84761cb52.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
So anyway, keep life fun for your kids. Or if you don't have kids, do something special for a kid you know! Here's a few other ideas Julie shared with me as a kid<br />
<br />
-making ice cream in a can <a href="http://crafts.kaboose.com/coffee-can-ice-cream.html">like so. </a> I remember kicking my can all over town!! <br />
- writing letters to kids in the hospital <br />
- dressing up. She had the BEST dress up clothes. Two tutu's even though she only had a son. <br />
- powder puffs. There are fabulous photos somewhere of Julie's son Brandon and I covered in talcum powder! We got in trouble that time! <br />
- postcards. Julie and her family sent us postcards from everywhere! <br />
- special birthday cards. I loved cats as a kid and most of my cards had kitties on them. <br />
- plays. I 'm not sure if it was Julie or my mom that encouraged this one but I have many memories of the "plays" Brandon, my sister Meagan and I came up with. Our best was titled "the big blue rock". <br />
<br />
Hope everyone is having a lovely Thursday. I'm excited. I'm going out tonight!!Sarah@sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11178230087183015668noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168475680679875161.post-21940245092425989772011-03-02T07:11:00.000-06:002011-03-02T07:11:15.755-06:00Happy Birthday Mom - the Helen Lanyard Pouch<div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5491131827/" title="DSC07392 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07392" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5100/5491131827_c042fc02d6.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
Yesterday was my mom's 60th birthday. She lives over four hours from me and didn't want a party so there was no big celebration. In fact, my mom went to a funeral for one of her very good friends, but that is a post for tomorrow. I wanted to make my mom a little something for her birthday and asked her awhile back if she'd like one of the pouches. She said yes, but wondered if I could make one that she could wear. See, my mom is a teacher and always running around with her keys and phone and change in her pocket. So, I came up with the lanyard pouch. I made a pouch similar to <a href="http://sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.com/2011/01/pay-it-foward-pouches-giveaway-of-sorts.html">the pay it forward pouches</a>, but made it vertical and attached rings to the top and bottom. Do you want to make one for the teacher in your life?? Or anyone else who needs quick access to their keys, phone, money??? I think I may make one for myself to wear at the park with the kids this summer. I hate carrying a purse at the park. How about a tutorial?? <br />
<br />
You will need <br />
<br />
2 pieces of fabric 4 x 7.5 inches for the outside of the pouch<br />
2 pieces of fabric 4 x 7.5 inches for the lining of the pouch<br />
2 pieces of fusible interfacing 4 x 7.5<br />
2 piece of fabric 2 x 2 inches for tabs <br />
2 key rings<br />
one zipper <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5491132459/" title="DSC07339 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07339" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5177/5491132459_d6e19d91ea.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
start by attaching the interfacing to the fabric you are using for the outside of your pouch. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5491126601/" title="DSC07345 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07345" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5053/5491126601_296b6fce59.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
Next take your small 2x2 pieces of fabric and fold each one right sides together. Sew with a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Turn right side out and press. Fold in half and press again. They should look like this. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5491126039/" title="DSC07341 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07341" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5176/5491126039_2579efe213.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
Now you are ready to assemble the pouch. Start with your outside fabric right side up. Next place the tab in the middle of the short end of the pouch. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5491720912/" title="DSC07347 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07347" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5135/5491720912_cb9ac572a8.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
Next, put down your zipper. You place your zipper face down on top of the outer fabric and tab. The tab of your zipper should be facing on the left. Next, place your lining fabric on top of the zipper wrong side up. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5491127921/" title="DSC07349 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07349" height="500" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5260/5491127921_5356a0e21d.jpg" width="375" /></a></div><br />
Carefully sew the layers together using a zipper foot if you have one. Open the layers and press down the seams. The one side of your pouch should look like this. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5491722320/" title="DSC07350 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07350" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5251/5491722320_9172d17e9d.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
Now you will repeat with the other side, stacking the layers in the same way. For the opposite side, you will eliminate the tab and you will layer, placing your zipper with tab facing to the right instead of the left. When you are done, you can trim off the long end of your zipper. <br />
<br />
Now, open the zipper of your pouch about once inch. Open the layers of your pouch placing the right sides together. Place your remaining tap between the outside layers of your pouch. The folded edge should be toward the inside. This tab should be directly across from the tab by the zipper. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5491722912/" title="DSC07352 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07352" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5093/5491722912_b98ce42a19.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
Pin around your pouch and the sew with a 5/8 seam allowance around the outside edge, leaving a small opening in the pouch for turning. When sewing press the layers of the zipper towards the lining. Turn your pouch right side out and stitch up the lining. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5491130591/" title="DSC07355 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07355" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5176/5491130591_290e2b5720.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
I apologize, I should have a bunch of photos of those steps but I had a brain fart and forgot to take them. Let me know if you have questions about these steps. Attach key rings to both of the tabs. Now your pouch is done. <br />
<br />
For the lanyard, Choose one long piece of fabric two inches wide, or several shorter pieces. You will need to sew the shorter pieces together to make your finished length. Fold this strip in half right sides together and sew. Turn the strip right side out and stitch the ends together to form a loop. Thread through the top right of your pouch. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5491726624/" title="DSC07391 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07391" height="333" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5137/5491726624_e48ef97a8f.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
Attach your keys and fill the pouch! I hope my mom likes this!!! <br />
<br />

Having a small child attempt to take the photo isn't much better. That said, I present you with my version of the Kitschy Apron from the book <a href="http://www.amazon.com/One-Yard-Wonders-Sewing-Fabric-Projects/dp/1603424490">One Yard Wonders.</a> It really would have been cuter with contrasting fabric for the ruffle but I scored four yards of the red and white print for two dollars at my local goodwill and I wanted to use it up! <br />
<br />

<br />
I'm hoping to make a couple more of these to give as prizes for the games at my sister's vintage kitchen themed bridal shower later this month! I scored some red fabric in the dollar room at the thrift store this morning to use on the next one!Sarah@sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11178230087183015668noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168475680679875161.post-17478689396379030562011-02-27T17:56:00.000-06:002011-02-27T17:56:51.148-06:00Something on Sunday - Poof HeadbandHow about a little bling for Oscar Sunday??? I saw some tulle poof headbands in Old Navy last night and thought "I could make something like that." And have you been in there lately?? There are a million embellished t-shirts on the shelves. It really made me wonder if the designers from Old Navy are reading craft blogs for ideas!?!?! <br />
<br />
Start with some tulle. I had some from a tutu project gone bad. It's the kind that comes on a roll at Michael's for weddings and such. Cut some squares or rectangles. You'll need at least 10. This is kind of free form. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5483947668/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="DSC07356 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07356" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5212/5483947668_35dafe3719.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Trim your rectangles into sort of a flower shape. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5483949958/" title="DSC07359 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07359" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5013/5483949958_ee26d352f4.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
Next scrunch them up in the middle and hot glue them to a little circle of felt. Mine was about the size of a dime. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5483358283/" title="DSC07360 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07360" height="500" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5138/5483358283_80d2f8557d.jpg" width="375" /></a></div><br />
When you are done gluing on your stack of flowers. Take another circle of felt and glue it to your headband. I used the stretchy elastic sort but you could use any headband, clip or pin. <br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5483951006/" title="DSC07362 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07362" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5297/5483951006_51311b7b05.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
Finish by sticking it on your Sweet Pea's head :) <br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5483952808/" title="DSC07369 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07369" height="500" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5060/5483952808_610c1b202f.jpg" width="333" /></a></div><br />
Take an obligatory picture of the baby brother modeling reindeer antlers despite the fact that it is nearly March. Fun times around here I tell ya! <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5483359913/" title="DSC07370 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07370" height="500" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5060/5483359913_006745a7bd.jpg" width="375" /></a></div><br />
And I'm off. Girls only Oscar party tonight. Sweet Pea just said "Dad, get your lazy butt out of bed and feed us some supper." :)Sarah@sweetpeaandjojo.blogspot.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11178230087183015668noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-168475680679875161.post-5607853573751074782011-02-25T15:34:00.000-06:002011-02-25T15:34:31.650-06:00Billions of Buntings<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5477463776/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="DSC07333 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07333" height="500" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5293/5477463776_22dc20316f.jpg" width="375" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
Yes, Billions. At least that's how many buntings it seems like we need for my sister Bethany's wedding in June. Actually I think it's something like 33 nine yard buntings. Peter, her soon to be husband did an exact calculation using the diameter of the tent they are renting and allowing for a 12 to 18 inch "drape" in the buntings. Nice to have an engineer in the family :) And theses photos are of the two that I have completed. . . . . so many more to go. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5477465288/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="DSC07336 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07336" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5292/5477465288_53a721833e.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I have to report that the most difficult part of the project has been cutting all the triangles. They are cut from samples of discontinued decorator fabric. So think about cutting the stuff your chair is covered in. Oh and think about doing it using sometimes difficult pinking shears. Hard work. My mom, myself and all three of my sisters had a bit of a "bunting" party over the holidays. We popped in a DVD of Anne of Green Gables and went to work with two people marking fabric and two cutting. It was a cozy night until all of us had aching hands. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54115602@N02/5476863799/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="DSC07332 by sweetpea & jojo, on Flickr"><img alt="DSC07332" height="375" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5051/5476863799_8f54898903.jpg" width="500" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I honestly can't wait to see how these look decorating a big tent on a lovely June day. I'm sure I'll have more photos to share then! I sure hope it's warmer than the slushy day we are having here.<br />
